Introduction

National Pingtung Senior High School was founded in April 1938. Originally, it was named “Kaohsiung State Pingtung High School” in the period of Japanese colonial rule. After the retrocession of Taiwan to the Republic of China on October 25, 1945, the name was changed to “Taiwan Provincial Pingtung High School”, then “Taiwan Provincial Pingtung Senior High School.” It was officially named “National Pingtung Senior High School” on February 1st, 1999. The school has been through 16 principals’ proactive administration, and has now been passed down to the present PrincipalMr. Chen Gou-Hsiang, who took office on August 1st, 2017. He administers the school with the rationale of “enabling, energizing, internationalizing” the prestigious institution.

The school is full of historical traditions, ethos of liberty and simplicity, and emphasizes holistic education. THE alumni of PTHS are prominent in fields such as politics, economics, business’, the medical and financial sector, military, as well as education and academics. Presently, there are 57 classes, which includes Classes for the Mathematically and Scientifically Gifted, Class for the Athletically Gifted, Class for the Artistically Gifted and the Bilingual Experimental Class.
